Dont Forget To Budget For Sport

Sports are expensive; the average sportsman will find themselves needing to find funds to cover all of the following expenses.

Administrative expenses
Whether it’s your golfers insurance UK policy, your club and green fees, or your licensing costs, these can add up quickly. As these are predictable periodic costs, they are very easy to add to your regular household budget, so don’t hesitate to do this.

Kit
Both equipment and sports clothes, this can be anywhere between expensive and ruinous depending on the specific sport. There are often opportunities to save money here by looking for good deals on second hand equipment, but this will only get you so far.

Travel costs
Even at amateur levels it is unlikely that you will find yourself playing only home fixtures, none team sports will often have events elsewhere that you will wish to enter as your skills start to progress.

As all of this adds up quickly, the trick is to move them from unexpected, random costs that can take you by surprise and completely ruin your saving plans, to predictable expected costs that you are expecting and have already factored into your budget. Once you’ve done this you will be less prone to sudden, unexpected surprises that can cost you your financial peace of mind.
